St Kilda Primary School

We held a Welcome to Country Anzac Day event to commemorate the original event 100 years ago and wars since. Our guest speaker was an RSL Vietnam Veteran. The WWI honour board from St Kilda Primary School was displayed (it shows past teachers and students’ sacrifice) and Year 5 Students sang ‘Lest We Forget’. Students from each class held a cross with the name of a past teachers or student killed while serving in WWI. Students then formed a line and walked from the current assembly area to the planting site of the Gallipoli Oak. School Captains planted the Gallipoli Oak. In commemoration the School Captains recited the poem – ‘In Flanders Fields’ as representatives from each class laid wreaths (made by the children in each class) in front of the flag pole. The Ode, Last Post, Minutes Silence, The Rouse, and The National Anthem – Advance Australia Fair were undertaken.
